Capturing Nature
5 Week Course: Thursdays, 23rd April - 21st May, 12:30am-2:30pm
This course will teach techniques in soft pastel for painting the natural world through a variety of projects and practical exercises.
• Explore soft pastel painting techniques to create gorgeous artworks depicting nature through landscape and botanical studies.
• Learn to utilise composition, perspective and observation to create paintings that delight the eye.
• Learn the key principles of colour theory and explore techniques for expressive mark making
• Learn to depict shadow and light to make your paintings more dynamic and visually engaging.
This 5-week course is suitable for beginners, improvers and experienced artists alike and will be led by Artist Instructor Lauren Johnson.
You will learn essential painting techniques and skills using materials provided by Turpentyne.

Painting the Northeast
7 Week Course: Thursdays, 4th June - 16th July, 12:30am-2:30pm
This course will explore and expand students’ knowledge of watercolour and line and wash techniques to create beautiful works of art inspired by the landscapes and cityscapes of the Northeast. This course will include a variety of projects and practical exercises, including a day of painting en plein air in the Newcastle City Centre (date will depend upon weather forecasts)
Students will:
• Explore watercolour line and wash techniques to create loose and lively artworks depicting the landscapes and architecture of the Northeast.
• Learn to utilise composition, perspective and observation to create paintings that delight the eye.
• Learn the key principles of colour theory and colour mixing
• Learn to depict shadow and light to make your paintings more dynamic and visually engaging.
This 7-week course is suitable for beginners, improvers and experienced artists alike and will be led by Artist Instructor Lauren Johnson.
You will learn essential painting techniques and skills using materials provided by Turpentyne.

Turpentyne Classic
Ongoing: Mondays 12:30-2:30pm, term-time. Enrol at any time.
Much like our comprehensive courses for young people, this course will teach a wide variety of fine art drawing and painting skills for adults. Students will learn the principles of visual measurement, colour theory, and composition, as well as how to use a wide variety of materials to render a diverse range of subject matter.
From illustration to portraiture, to master studies and more… We will leave no artistic stone unturned!
This ongoing course is suitable for beginners, improvers, and experienced artists alike and will be led by Artist Instructor Katie Hammond.
In all courses at Turpentyne, participants will gain essential drawing and painting techniques and skills using a range of materials provided by Turpentyne.
Course Fees: £20 per weekly 2-hour lesson (booked and paid by the half-term)
